The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DOFE) is a life-changing programme available to young people aged 14-24. Find your closest approved DOFE centre to get started on your Bronze, Silver or Gold award journey today.
For each level of the award, you need to complete activities in four sections - volunteering, physical, skills, and expedition. There are lots of options like learning an instrument, joining a sports team, volunteering at a charity shop, and getting out into the outdoors for expeditions.
Visit the DOFE website and search for approved activities in your local area. You can also speak to your DOFE centre leader for suggestions and ways they may be able to help you with activity options close by.
The only cost is a joining fee to register for your DOFE programme level which covers administrative costs. Your centre and assessors are volunteers so taking part in activities themselves is up to you to organise and fund.
A Bronze award usually takes around 6 months. Silver around 6-9 months. And the Gold award 12 months minimum. You can go at your own pace but awards are only presented at official licencing dates twice a year.
For Silver and Gold levels, you need to complete a practice, training and final 2 day 1 night expedition. This involves map reading, navigating routes, setting up camp, camp craft skills and working as a team out in the countryside.
